The Roman German States

Location: The Roman Empire.

Political Characteristics: After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Germanic civilization consolidated into kingdoms. These kingdoms had little or none effective power and the political instability reigned.

Social Characteristics: Their society was based on family clan and primitive characteristics.

 Economical characteristics: The economy was based on agriculture. Commerce was not very developed, because it was concentrated on Byzantium.

Cultural Characteristics: Over both the Roman and German territories, Latin and Barbarian languages mixed. Laws also combined the Roman written law with the Germanic costumes. The Germanic States transformed their beliefs in favor of the Catholic religion.

 Important Characters: Odoacer (a Germanic ruler) who deposed Romulus Augustus bringing the Western Roman Empire to an end.
